Vellum Flowers

I saw vellum flowers on a blog and just had to try them.  This blog is just fantastic for all sorts of cards and ideas so check it out:.  Here is the link to the flower I tried because that's the punch I had  http://selmasstampingcorner.blogspot.com/2010/04/tutorial-on-making-punched-flowers.html   Mine didn't turn out nearly as well as hers but were passable for a first attempt.  The centers were liquid pearls and this was only my second time to try those.  I know those will get better with time, too.  I didn't have the border punch she used but used the Martha Stewart Elegant Cakes cartridge in my cricut and cut a similar border.  I really like these flowers and will be trying more.

Emmy's room

Well, I kept forgetting to take pictures so my daughter did it for  me.  Here are the birds on her wall.  The branches and leaves were a vinyl set that she found on discount and they cost less than what it would have cost for me to buy vinyl and since I haven't worked much with vinyl, that was a good thing.  Her bedding set is called "Haley" and is from the Pottery Barn. My daughter wanted the birds to look like they went with the set but not too "matchy-matchy".  I will be doing butterflies and a bird's nest to add to it.  Grangirl LOVES birds and was just tickled pink with them.

Weekly posting

I have been busy making birds for the wall of grangirl's room and now working on a table tent card for a Valentine's Dinner that son is giving.  Will post pics of those when done.

Until then, be sure to enter this giveaway by CosmoCricket http://cosmocricket.typepad.com/cosmo_cricket/2011/01/cosmo-cricket-chaw-2011-sneak-peek-3-ways-to-win.html as they have some great papers coming up in February.

I was very lucky and was able to work at the Repeat Impressions booth at the Mesquite Stamp Show this past weekend.   Wendy was so sweet and I had a great time.  Not sure how much I actually helped but it was fun to be able to see all the cards and in person see her great stamps.  I have some RI stamps on the way now and will be sure to post what I do with them.  I really like using my Cricut when making cards and layouts so I will be posting what I do on the Cricut messageboard as well.

Repeat Impressions J5 CASE card Challenge

On one of my favorite blogsites ( http://piecesofjoyhadden.blogspot.com/ ) I found this challenge and decided to try it...hope you will, too
http://www.thehousethatstampsbuilt.com/case-challenges/j5-case-card-challenge/

I used StampinUp Real Red for the card base,  a heart shaped cuttlebug folder on some simple white cardstock for the background mat, a scrap piece of paper and a small piece of ribbon.  The hearts on the smaller mat are from a Darcie's Country Folk Set JCS0089 as I don't have any Repeat Impressions stamps--a problem that will be remedied when I go to the Stamp Show in Mesquite this weekend!  I used versamark dazzle on the stamp, then stamped it with StampinUp Real Red ink, put embossing powder on it, heat embossed and then colored the small hearts with Prismacolor pencils.

First cards of the year

2010 ended and 2011 began on some sad notes and I had to do some sympathy cards.  Five of them.  Here are pictures of the ones I came up with.  Most use at least one small cricut cut and some stamping.  Hope I don't have to do any more of these for a looonnngg time.

The Angel card uses branches from the Martha Stewart pine branch punch which are cut and glued on the outline of the figure which is a Cricut cut from the Christmas Noel cartridge.  The sentiment is fuzzy as I took it with my phone instead of camera but it's from something I saw somewhere (just can't remember where) and is computer generated:

God saw the road was getting tough
With hills too hard to climb.
He gently closed those weary eyes
And gently said "Peace Be Thine"

The original card where my inspiration came from can be found at

I did two that were similar but took photos of only one.  They used a Cricut cut from A Child's Year cartridge for the frame with a stamped sentiment from Stamping Up but not sure the name of the set.  My inspiration was from this great card:

This one was scraplifted from one of my favorite cardmakers, SusieB and her original card is at

This was one I quickly did with a Cricut cut from the Lyrical Letters cartridge

First post

Well, I was the last one around to go from film camera to digital, probably the last to switch from cassette tapes to CDs and probably the last person around to do a blog.  Be patient with me as this is a learning experience and I hope to have lots of fun and meet new friends.
