I painted the boxes (after assembling them) in red, green and purple. I did use a thin coat of mod podge to glue the papers down and then a thin layer after it was dried, to protect the paper. And I did glue down the purple background paper after assembling the shelves for the boxes. When you pull out the boxes, there is brown behind the drawers which is one reason why I wished I'd used a color other than brown. The box is 13 x 13 so to cover all the edges, I cut a frame from Storybook to cover all the corners (hope that makes sense). The curtain rod was made from using wire cutters to cut a length of thick metal coathanger. The endcaps of the curtain rod are beads (had to look awhile to find the right ones) that are glued to the cut piece of coathanger with gorilla glue. The curtains are a cheap felt from Michael's and I just pleated it, then used my eyelet setter to set eyelets for the coathanger piece to slide through. I was lucky enough to have some old outlets that were perfect.

When you get yours done, please post a link! I need to do another one this year and would love some ideas!scootingrannyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15710754536857398106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9157388555469845658.post-90383228074266398822014-09-19T16:59:12.499-05:002014-09-19T16:59:12.499-05:00Thanks for sharing. It had the gold garland and a few small balls on it. I hand cut the candy canes, chestnut clusters and pieces of candy from the Graphic 45 Nutcracker Sweet paper that is in the 8 x 8 paper pad because the were a little smaller than the ones on the 12 x 12 paper. But cuts from the 12 x 12 paper would work, too.scootingrannyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15710754536857398106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9157388555469845658.post-29515299269397342052012-12-12T14:53:00.429-06:002012-12-12T14:53:00.429-06:00i love your advent calendar. every detail is so w...i love your advent calendar. every detail is so wonderful. i am in awe of those minature boxes. did you purchase the small christmas tree or make that too? it is just awesome. thanks for the inspiration.susan craftshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03386935453924349216noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9157388555469845658.post-6272595180044721512012-12-12T07:23:10.488-06:002012-12-12T07:23:10.488-06:00Oh, my goodness!
